It has served. We feel it, we see it, we imagine it. This regional terracotta terrine carries within it decades of slow cooking, simmering confits, and pâtés prepared for large gatherings. The raw and solid ocher-yellow terracotta contrasts with the glossy chocolate-brown glaze of the lid, rich and deep like a reduced sauce. The lid is carefully crafted. It features a central cross-shaped handle, a decoration of molded half-circles running around the entire perimeter, and two side 'ears' that make it easy to grip. Nothing is superfluous; everything is designed for use. The mark engraved on the bottom, "27 / 3", testifies to numbered artisanal production, originating from a regional French pottery workshop, from the late 19th or first half of the 20th century. Placed on a sideboard, in a kitchen with character, or on a farm table, it tells a story without needing to speak. It can still be used, or simply be there, like an object that has transcended time without losing any of its presence. Length approximately 27 cm. Condition: intact glaze, traces of use inside, normal for a piece that has been used. Matching lid and body, complete set.
