The K500 coffee table is a design by Matthias Fischer for the renowned German manufacturer Ronald Schmitt. The table is still in production (new price approx. 2,150 euros) and is "officially" the most difficult table to photograph, so apologies for the quality of the photos. Photo no. 4 is therefore from the internet; in photo no. 5 you can see the table in use.
The table is made of clear glass and rests on sturdy, chrome-plated metal supports. The most striking feature is the patented, invisible mechanism in the central plate, which allows the safety glass leaves to rotate synchronously on the two chrome-plated 'legs'. This ingenious design enables the user to adjust the table's configuration as desired, which benefits both aesthetics and functionality.
The object is in excellent condition, with the original finish and mechanism remaining completely intact. The combination of glass and chrome creates a timeless look that effortlessly stands the test of time. The dimensions of the table depend on the configuration you determine yourself by rotating the leaves. The dimensions listed in the specifications therefore reflect only one of the possibilities. These possibilities are: L 102-141 cm, W: 70-99 cm. The height is 40 cm. The rotating leaves are 12 mm thick.
The glass plate serving as the 'base' measures 38x70 cm and is 19 mm thick; the intermediate low plateau measures 53x82 cm and is 15 mm thick.
The table was purchased in the 1990s and shows light signs of use (a few scratches in the glass) consistent with its age.
