This rattan wingback armchair embodies the iconic lines of Gio Ponti’s renowned rattan furniture, designed for Italian cruise ships (including the legendary Andrea Doria) and executed at the time by the renowned Bonacina in Lurago d’Erba — still the home of Italian rattan craftsmanship. The high, sunbeam-like backrest, the fitted waist, and the wide round base are characteristic of this type of “nautical” design: light, airy, and made to be both elegant and functional on board. The weave features a beautiful, warm honey colour that only develops through decades of patina. A piece with a story — whether you come from the fleet or simply love that maritime, mid-century glamour. Condition: good for its age, weave intact, natural signs of use.
