This historic gilt-bronze sculpture depicts the four-armed Avalokiteshvara, known in Tibetan Buddhism as Chenrezig, the bodhisattva of infinite compassion. The spiritually resonant piece exemplifies the refined iconographic traditions of the Himalayan region, likely originating from Nepal or Tibet. Traditionally hollow-cast in bronze, the figure is seated in the vajra posture upon a richly decorated double-lotus pedestal. The primary hands meet in the Anjali mudra, signifying devotion, while the secondary hands hold a lotus and an openwork ritual attribute. A small seated Buddha within the elaborate crown further identifies the deity. The softly modelled face features almond-shaped eyes and a deeply serene expression, complemented by finely rendered earrings, necklaces, and chest ornaments. The reverse is fully worked, and the piece measures 32 centimetres in height and 22 centimetres in width. The sculpture survives in good historic condition, retaining clear remnants of its original fire gilding across the intricately detailed surface.
