Gerard Bruning created this ceramic sculpture a year before his suicide in 1986, and it was exhibited that year during an exhibition in his own home/studio in Utrecht; see photos with information from the catalogue. The majority of his oeuvre consists of large, monumental bronze sculptures in public spaces; only at the end of his life did he work with the fragile material of ceramics.
This work was purchased by the artist Thea Gregoor, and it came into my possession through her estate. My parents were friends with the Gregoor couple.
Gerard Bruning was my uncle.
