Ger Lataster (Schaesberg, February 16, 1920) can be considered an abstract expressionist. After studying at the Maastricht Institute of Industrial Art, he went on to study at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Lataster is capable of applying abstract expressionism to the extreme. Well-known works by Lataster include the painting "Playing Children"—commissioned in 1954 by the municipality of Heerlen—and the monumental ceiling painting for the Mauritshuis in The Hague. His work is also exhibited in museums such as the Boymans Museum. Lataster is one of the most successful Dutch artists of his generation. There are some blemishes on the edges, but the entire work has been well preserved since its creation in 1988, and it's always a pleasure to study the artist and his work in detail. Several books have also been published about Ger Lataster. Highly recommended.
