Product description
A complete Genius seating group designed by Illum Wikkelsø and made by C.F.C. Silkeborg in Denmark. The armchair, two-seat sofa and three-seat sofa share a distinctive balance of generous cognac-coloured leather cushions and an open, dark mahogany frame. Seen together, their matching forms give this set a presence that an individual Genius chair cannot convey on its own. From the front, separate seat and back cushions establish a clear rhythm across the sofas. The upholstered armrests nest within outward-angled wooden supports, whose rounded ends remain visible beyond the cushions. Exposed seat rails and slender legs lift the upholstery visually, allowing the substantial leather forms and the lighter framework to retain their individual character. The design is just as considered from the side and rear. Curved wooden rails follow the arms and cross behind the back cushions, where narrow leather tabs loop over the upper rails. Rather than hiding how the upholstery sits within the frame, these details make that relationship part of the design. Webbing visible beneath the seat cushions adds another view of the seating construction. The mahogany is central to the character of this particular set: its deep brown finish brings out the warmth of the cognac leather without overwhelming it. The repeated frame, cushions and leather detailing remain coherent across all three seating formats. Together with the visible Silkeborg maker’s labels and the set’s excellent vintage condition, they make this an especially compelling presentation of Wikkelsø’s Genius design.
