That story begins in 1969, when Gelderland's founder, Koene Oberman, visits the Goed Wonen furniture store of the Des Bouvrie family in Bussum. The young, ambitious Jan des Bouvrie showed him some of his first design sketches and managed to convince Mr. Oberman. These were sketches for the Kubusbank. This would be the first Des Bouvrie design ever put into production. His Kubusbank became an icon in the design world and played a major role in Gelderland's success. Jan des Bouvrie's designs have received numerous awards and distinctions over the years. The 430 Kubusbank is also part of the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Centraal Museum Utrecht.
