Rotterdam, NetherlandsView all items from this sellerThis Gispen armchair model with the special element of the high headrest is part of the seat of 4 armchairs near the fireplace in the Sonneveld house. AH Sonneveld was a member of the management at the Van Nelle Factory and had his villa designed in 1933 by the same architectural firm as that of the factory; Brinkman and van der Vlugt, completely in the style of the Nieuwe Bouwen. The furniture and lighting were almost all supplied by Gispen. Family friend WH Gispen provided custom work for the family, which meant that some existing designs experienced minor changes, such as thicker cushions, to accommodate their personal desire for more luxury and comfort. In 2001, the Gispen GS423 chair was reissued due to the reconstruction of the Sonneveld house. The armchair is an exact reproduction of the model from the 1930s and is upholstered from the factory with top quality leather in chic gray/taupe with a very careful tendency towards dark lilac-gray. The chair is in new condition. The cushions can be removed from the frame and the chairs as a whole are of very heavy quality. Price is for 1 chair!
