The school chair of yesteryear
Galvanitas' S16 is the school chair of the 1960s. It was in just about every school in the Netherlands.
And it sat remarkably well. Because of its minimalist design and industrial look, the chair is popular. The S16 from Galvanitas is definitely a classic and fits perfectly into current interior design trends.
A special design chair
The chair was designed and produced by Galvanitas in Oosterhout in the late 1950s, early 1960s. They opted for a design with the so typical compass legs. Instead of the usual tubular construction, the designer chose a frame of pressed sheet steel. A very solid and at the same time revolutionary design for the time. Wim Rietveld, one of the pioneers of industrial design in the Netherlands, described the furniture pieces as functional: "well formed, sturdy, usable and inexpensive.
