The Gaetano Pesce Up-7 Foot, made in 1969 for B&B Italia, represents a remarkable fusion of art and functional design. This iconic piece, representing the culmination of Pesce's Up series, is inspired by the human foot, enlarged to six times its natural size to blur the boundaries between sculpture and seating. Pesce's Pop Art influences shine through as he isolates, monumentalizes and alters the proportions of everyday objects to create a truly unique piece of furniture. Made from innovative plastics and foaming techniques perfected by B&B Italia, Up-7 Foot is meticulously formed by pouring fluid, reactive polyurethane raw materials into a mold. The materials expand to form a foam structure, capturing the essence of Pesce's visionary design. In addition, an optional step enables the application of a tinted polyurethane elastomer coating, resulting in a luxurious leather-like finish. Versatility is inherent in the Up-7 Foot's design, serving equally well as a chaise longue and a striking decorative sculpture.
