Product description
This magnificent mid-century modern dressing table (or vanity desk) complete with its original matching stool is a definitive icon of British design history. Manufactured by the legendary British company G-Plan (E. Gomme Ltd.) as part of their highly celebrated "Fresco" range during the 1970s, the set was designed by the renowned Victor Wilkins. Crafted from premium teak wood, the vanity showcases Wilkins' signature organic style, featuring beautifully sculpted solid teak drawer handles, a floating tabletop aesthetic, and the iconic hidden "floating" central jewelry drawer lined in its original rich purple velvet.
The set comes complete with its matching circular Fresco stool, designed to slide seamlessly underneath the desk when not in use to maintain a clean, minimalist profile. With its long, elegant geometric lines and exceptional storage layout—featuring two deep drawers on either side—this versatile piece functions beautifully as a classic bedroom vanity, a sophisticated hall console, or a high-end statement writing desk for a home office.
Condition & Character
The set is preserved in its original vintage condition, carrying an honest and well-cared-for narrative of its history.
Surface & Patina: The premium teak veneers retain their deep, warm golden-brown color tones. The wood surfaces exhibit standard, honest signs of use—including light scuffs, faint superficial marks, and minor scratches consistent with decades of authentic vintage care.
Drawers & Mechanics: All four main drawers and the central hidden velvet drawer glide open and close smoothly, showcasing exceptional original British joinery.
Stool & Upholstery: The matching circular stool is structurally sound. The original upholstery shows light, age-appropriate vintage wear but remains entirely functional.
Structure: Both the dressing table frame and the stool are exceptionally stable and sturdy, standing strong with excellent structural integrity.
Inspection: To properly evaluate the fine wood grain layout, internal storage conditions, and specific vintage character marks, please review the detailed photos carefully.
