In January 1947, Gerrit Fris senior and his son Gerrit Fris junior started NV Keramische Industrie Fris at the Baandervesting in Edam. The factory's permanent designer, Willem Hendrik de Vries, has left a mark on the design of Fris like no other. His craft background blended beautifully with his admiration for Bauhaus and produced iconic tableware and vases. Make a start – start with Fresh! Such was the motto of the Fris pottery factory, which encouraged the modern-oriented post-war Dutch to purchase the utility ceramics from the factory in Edam. The collection that Fris launched immediately stood out because of its functionality, good shape and fresh colours. NV Keramische Industrie Fris has been of great importance for the development of Dutch utility ceramics, as a prelude to the world-famous Dutch Design Style.Minimal signs of use. Excepted: A covered bowl with a glued handle. See picture
