Product description
Unique and rare!
The intensive and artisanal technique of "strappo" or Calicot!
A "fresco" is a type of wall painting made with natural pigments and clay mixed with water and spread onto fresh plaster. This old work can often be "transferred."
A canvas is glued to the fresco and then stripped. This removes the painting, which remains attached to the canvas in a "negative." Then, the "recovery" phase is used to transfer the "positive" of the painting. This method is called "Calicot" or the "strappo method."
Thanks to this procedure, authentic frescoes on canvas can be obtained, some of which are hundreds of years old, from wall to canvas. The finished fresco can be mounted on a frame and hung like a painting.
This is a similar work of art. Signed "LM" and stamped with the "Autentica Strappo Murale B'Affresco" authenticity stamp.
Such works of art are rarely offered for sale and are often used for restoration purposes in antiquities.
This work has its usual irregularities. A single small hole, and the detailed photos clearly show how this fresco was once attached to the wall and transferred, complete with scars. A beautiful and old work of art.
