This large ivory earthenware deep dish captivates with the simplicity and directness of its design. A single flower, with six deep burgundy petals surrounding a soft green center, is supported by a slender stem accompanied by two graceful leaves. A burgundy line highlights the rim. Nothing superfluous. This type of design, with a unique floral motif freely placed on the white surface, is characteristic of French productions from the 1950s-1960s. Manufacturers from Northern and Eastern France offered accessible tableware with painted or stenciled designs, where color and form were enough to create an atmosphere. The unmarked base does not allow for attribution of the piece to a specific manufacturer. The quality of the glazing and the delicacy of the design point towards meticulous French craftsmanship.
