Rare and beautiful antique Absinthe carafe with magnifying frosted glass base. Marked “La Cressonnée” in red and blue. Capacity: 0.6 liters. Absinthe is a spirit made from anise, wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), fennel, and a number of additional herbs. In France, it was one of the most popular alcoholic beverages among artists of the late 19th century. Absinthe was banned in several European countries in the early 20th century due to the alleged hallucinogenic effects and neurotoxicity of thujone, a component of wormwood.
