Franz Laskoff (1869-1918 or 1921) was an advertiser, watercolorist, and caricaturist from Prussia. After leaving Poland for his studies in Strasbourg and then in Paris, he settled in Milan in 1898, where he began his career as a billboard and advertising illustrator at Officine Ricordi. The easily readable lettering, together with the very personal style that gives the figures on solid backgrounds, make his illustrations, created for the most important newspapers and for large Italian companies, an exemplary example in the Italian graphic design scene of the early 20th century. This particular lithograph was created in the early twentieth century, in 1903, for the newspaper Avanti!, newspaper of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI). It depicts, on a solid background in perfect contrast with the figures shown, a general on horseback leading a crowd of workers. The majesty of the white horse immediately stands out in the foreground - the only element in this color on the dark blue background. The title of the newspaper stands out in red, the color of the socialists, at the top of the lithograph. In the lower right, in the crowd, Franz Laskoff's signature is visible and legible. The lithograph is framed and a short biography of the artist is placed on the back. This beautiful lithograph can be hung thanks to the support integrated into the frame.
