A very rare and original poster by François-Xavier Lalanne for the Alexandre Iolas Gallery, printed on white velvet paper, circa 1968. It depicts one of his most famous works, the Polymorphic Cat, a bar in the shape of a cat with a fish tail.

With his wife Claude, François-Xavier Lalanne (1908-2008) is the most celebrated French sculptor of the second half of the 20th century. His work is characterized by animal imagery. He studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris. Upon arriving in the capital, he was introduced to many figures of Surrealism and Modernism, such as Man Ray, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely, and Constantin Brancusi. He is particularly known for his rhinoceroses, sheep, fish, and birds. Supported by gallery owners such as Alexandre Iolas, Leo Castelli, Paul Kasmin, and Ben Brown, his work was collected early on by leading connoisseurs, including Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Bergé, Karl Lagerfeld, Peter Marino, Valentino, Terry de Gunzburg, Alberto Pinto, the Rothschilds, the Noailles, Jane Holzer, Michael Shvo, Georges Pompidou, Roman Abramovich, and Jacques Grange.
