Product description
This work, “Esto sí que es leer”, is an original aquatint etching by Francisco de Goya. It is plate 29 from the influential series Los Caprichos, first published in 1799. In this depiction, we see a seated figure looking into a book with an empty gaze, while being cared for by others. It is a sharp, socially critical satire on the intellectual laziness and pedantry of the time.
This specific print of “Esto sí que es leer” is professionally framed in a classic wooden frame with a mat. The etching displays the characteristic gray tones and textures of Goya’s aquatint technique, which was revolutionary at the end of the 18th century. A unique opportunity for collectors of classic graphic art and art history enthusiasts.
