About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This original artwork by the Belgian artist Francine Somers depicts a young African child, executed in mixed media on paper. The work reflects the period Somers spent in Rwanda between 1951 and 1954, a time that had a profound influence on her artistic oeuvre and resulted in various drawings and watercolors with mother and child as the central theme.
The composition is built up with flowing, dark lines against a warm, orange-brown background, giving the work an intimate and earthy character. The paper is fitted with a mat, making the drawing ready to be framed immediately. The artist's signature is clearly visible in the lower right corner.
The artwork is in excellent condition, with the colors and lines retaining their original intensity. The authentic appearance of the paper contributes to the historical character of this unique piece.
This work comes into its own beautifully in an interior that embraces worldly influences or mid-century elements. It forms an understated yet striking accent in a study, hallway, or as part of an eclectic art wall.
