FRAB – Tlemcen | Christ in Majesty | French Ceramic Wall Art | Circa 1950s
A striking mid-century French religious ceramic diptych, comprising two beautifully glazed tiles depicting Christ in Majesty, surrounded by the traditional symbols of the Four Evangelists.
Inspired by Romanesque and Byzantine sacred art, this decorative composition features vibrant polychrome glazes, expressive raised black outlines and richly contrasting colors.
The artwork is signed FRAB – TLEMCEN on the front, with an additional FRAB TLEMCEN marking on the reverse.
The second tile bears the distinctive Desvres rooster factory mark, associated with the Fourmaintraux ceramic tradition in northern France.
Attributed to Brother André Bouton (1914–1980), known as FRAB, a Benedictine religious artist associated with North Africa.
Period: Circa 1950s–1960s.
Origin: Desvres, France.
Materials: Glazed ceramic, original wooden frame.

* Each ceramic tile: 15 × 15 cm.
* Overall framed dimensions: 18.5 × 34 cm.
