The painting 'The Forbidden Reading', originally created in 1876 by the Belgian artist Karel Ooms, depicts a dramatic moment. Two figures are surprised, or rather caught, while reading a forbidden book, presumably the Bible. It is the viewer who surprises them; when looking at the painting, it appears as if the characters are interrupted by it. The woman attempts to cover the book, while the man has an angry or guilty look.
Given the fame of the painting, this artwork is part of the Deluxe collection, which represents approximately 10% of the paintings within. The original artwork is located in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels.
