Private sellerProduct description
Rare and authentic collector's item. Exceptional art cast iron fireplace plate with a resolutely modernist design, created by the French painter André Quellier (1925–2010) and published in Paris by the famous STERN Art Foundry. This iconic model from the 1950s/1960s challenges the codes of traditional foundry. It represents an allegory of summer or harvest through a stylized silhouette of a naked young woman, holding a sheaf of wheat and a scythe. The refined aesthetic magnificently oscillates between late Art Deco, Mid-Century style, and the brutalist spirit. Features and Markings: Artist: André Quellier (signed « QUELLIER » engraved in the cast iron at the bottom right) Publisher: STERN Art Foundry (marking « Modèle Déposé STERN » bottom left) Original Dimensions: 53 cm x 43.5 cm Weight: 23.6 kg Condition & Restoration (Ready to install): This piece has undergone meticulous and passionate restoration. It is sound (no cracks or fragility of the cast iron) and presents a superb deep black, clean, and protective patina, which superbly highlights the relief and grain of the art cast iron. Decoration tip: Beyond its primary use in a fireplace hearth, this plate is now highly sought after as an art object in its own right. Its strong graphic presence makes it a superb brutalist wall sculpture to hang or place on a modernist teak sideboard. Extremely careful and secure shipping guaranteed (reinforced double cardboard packaging), or hand delivery. This object was in my family, and I do not know its acquisition origin.
