The dense, dark wood, stained and waxed, has developed a deep patina over the years, highlighting each grain and every knife incision depicting the plumage. Its low-to-the-water silhouette, the long, slender beak raised towards the sky, the inlaid eyes, the ochre highlights on the wings. This hand-carved marsh bird evokes traditional hunting decoys, without being a utilitarian example. It is a decorative sculpture, an object for contemplation. Crafted from solid wood around the 1960s-1980s, this type of piece was part of a then very vibrant folk art tradition, where self-taught or traditionally trained sculptors created stylized animals intended to adorn country houses, chalets, and rustic interiors. Each piece was unique, guided by the hand and eye of its creator. Approximately 20 cm in length, 11 cm in height. Placed on a library cabinet, a mantelpiece, or a console table, this sculpture brings a natural and silent presence.
