Product description
Folding stool PK91 by Poul Kjærholm for Fritz Hansen, 1960s Denmark. Designed in 1961, the PK91 folding stool is a refined example of Danish modern design at its most understated. Defined by its sculptural X-shaped frame in brushed stainless steel and its elegantly suspended black leather seat, the stool combines practicality with a remarkable sense of balance and proportion. The folding mechanism is seamlessly integrated into the design, allowing the piece to transition effortlessly between use and storage while maintaining its sophisticated appearance. Poul Kjærholm was known for his exceptional understanding of materials and construction. Unlike many of his Scandinavian contemporaries who primarily worked with wood, he embraced steel as a natural and expressive material, pairing it with leather, cane, and stone to create furniture of enduring elegance. His work is celebrated for its architectural clarity and meticulous attention to detail, with many of his designs finding their place in important museum collections around the world. The PK91 reflects Kjærholm’s ability to reinterpret historical furniture forms through a distinctly modern lens. Its clean lines, restrained aesthetic, and beautifully crafted leather seat result in a piece that is both functional and timeless. Whether used as occasional seating or appreciated as a sculptural object in its own right, the PK91 remains one of Kjærholm’s most iconic and enduring designs. Designed in 1961 and still highly sought after today, it stands as a testament to the lasting appeal of thoughtful, uncompromising craftsmanship. In very good vintage condition.
