Floris Meydam (1919-2011) In 1935, at age 16, Floris Meydam was employed as an assistant in the advertising department of the
Leerdam Glass Factory, where his father worked as glaspakker. In 1949 Floris Meydam became head of the design department of
the Leerdam Glass Factory. There he designed for Leerdam use and glass packaging for series products, but also crystal jewelery
and utensils for the crafts collection Serica and Unica. Floris Meydam was one of the major Dutch glass designers. Together with
Willem Heesen, Sybren Valkema and Gerard Thomassen Flrois Meydam belongs to the second generation of designers who were leading
in the following Copier Dutch glass. Floris Meydam became world famous. Designer of the Leerdam Glass Factory
and later as a free glass artist. He received many national and international awards for his many designs and
his work is represented in many museums around the world.
