About Floris Meydaym: In 1935, at the age of 16, Floris Meydam started working as an assistant in the advertising department of Glasfabriek Leerdam, where his father worked as a glass packer. From 1939 to 1943 he attended the evening course Art Industrial Education in Utrecht. After having been a glass decoration student at the Glasschool Leerdam in 1943, Floris Meydam worked from 1944 to 1947 at the Leerdam school as a glass decoration teacher. In 1949, Floris Meydam was put in charge of the design department of Glasfabriek Leerdam. There, Floris Meydam designed utility and packaging glass for series products for Leerdam, as well as crystal ornaments and utensils for the serica and Unica art and crafts collection. Floris Meydam was one of the most important Dutch glass designers. Together with Willem Heesen, Sybren Valkema and Gerard Thomassen, Flrois Meydam belongs to the second generation of designers who, after Copier, were leading in Dutch glass. Floris Meydam has become world famous as a designer of Glasfabriek Leerdam and later as a free glass artist. He received many national and international awards for his many designs and his work is represented in many museums around the world. As described earlier, a light flake in the shape of the moon on the stem of the lamp is not disturbing - also barely visible.
