Product description
There was a time when plates were not simply white. They featured flowers, colors, the styles of their era, and for decades accompanied meals of the same family. This one comes to us from the Digoin-Sarreguemines earthenware factories, a grand establishment that is part of the history of French tableware. Its name is still intimately linked today to these antique dishes found in family homes, on Sunday tables, and in dressers where fine dinner sets were kept. The pattern bears a lovely name: La Rose (The Rose). And yet, behind this generous rose with shades of old red and burgundy, the design is surprisingly modern. Lines intersect, extend, and carve the plate like a graphic composition. The grey-green of the foliage echoes the geometric lines, while the deep red of the flower gives the design its full presence. We are in that delightful period of the 1930s, when Art Deco found its way even into everyday objects. Floral motifs inherited from the previous century didn't disappear: they simplified, became more graphic, and met the new lines of modernity. This is precisely what makes La Rose so endearing today. It possesses the charm of French household crockery and, at the same time, enough character to become a true decorative object. The reverse side retains its stamp: LA ROSE, DIGOIN SARREGUEMINES, FRANCE. Diameter approximately 23 cm. It bears a few discreet marks left by time and use, those expected of tableware now approaching a century of existence. A 1930s rose that has traveled through time without losing its colors. Additional details: - Brand: Digoin Sarreguemines - Material: Faïence - Colour: vieux rouge - Colour: bordeaux - Colour: gris-vert - Colour: rouge profond - Period: 1930s
