“Donkey” figure, enameled porcelain, Lladró, 20th century – Spain
Charming porcelain from the prestigious Spanish manufacturer Lladró, depicting a long-haired donkey. Its posture is serene and calm as it is eating, with its mouth slightly open and ears extended backward. Great realism in the details and excellent polychromy; the soft color characteristic of Lladró porcelain, which shines thanks to its enameled finish. The bottom features the signature “Lladró. Made in Spain”.
The Lladró factory is, without a doubt, one of the most representative porcelain houses in Spain. Since its founding in the 1950s, the brothers Juan, José, and Vicente Lladró have managed to maintain their legacy and expand internationally, all thanks to their excellent craftsmanship carried out from their hometown in Valencia.
From the 1960s, the company began its international expansion, which led it to become a benchmark company in luxury ceramics. In 1965, Lladró exported part of its production to Canada and began to enter the United States. During the 1970s, there was a significant increase in Lladró products in the North American market. Also in the mid-1970s, Lladró began selling its products in Japan. From their first Rococo-inspired pieces, they managed to conquer the general public to become one of the most prestigious porcelain brands in the world.
