Product description
A captivating figurative bronze sculpture created in the Netherlands during the 1970s. Although the artist remains unknown, the work possesses a remarkable artistic quality, combining expressive modelling with a powerful sense of emotion and intimacy.
The compact composition depicts a curled, introspective human figure, reduced to its essential forms. The exaggerated hands and feet, together with the folded posture, create a striking visual tension that conveys vulnerability, protection, and contemplation. Rather than focusing on anatomical precision, the sculptor emphasizes emotional expression through volume and gesture.
The beautifully developed green patina enriches the organic surface of the bronze, adding depth and character while highlighting the sculpture’s tactile modelling. Its timeless, modernist aesthetic allows the piece to integrate effortlessly into both contemporary and classic interiors.
About the sculpture
Created during a period in which Dutch sculptors increasingly embraced expressive figuration, this work reflects the movement away from realism towards more emotional and symbolic representations of the human body. Its sculptural language recalls the work of several European modernists who sought to capture psychological presence through simplified, monumental forms.
Condition
Very good vintage condition with a beautifully developed natural patina. Minor signs of age and handling are consistent with the period and contribute to its authentic character.
