Description & Background Information
This expressive painting carries a special and unique story. The 2016 work is a rare co-creation between Jean-Christophe Wallaert and an anonymous artist. It is fundamentally built with a mixed technique on canvas, where various materials were deliberately used to create a powerful, expressionistic layering and texture that reflects the artistic dialogue and dynamic between both creators.
The creative process for this specific work testifies to a very physical, brutal, and intuitive artistic approach. At the base of the composition lies a raw, performative act: the back was forcefully stamped, leaving a clear, permanent impression of the shoe sole in the support. This physical act not only serves as a unique signature in verso but also formed the conceptual foundation for the artwork. This print was used as an anchor around which to draw and shape the further composition. An intriguing, layered, and genuinely 'lived-in' collector's item whose authenticity is fully guaranteed by the accompanying certificate.
expressionist painting - Jean-Christophe Wallaert - Under Broken Wings (just be sorry)
This expressive painting carries a special and unique story. It was initially conceived by the Belgian artist Jean-Christophe Wallaert, but then organically evolved into a co-creation after a moment of heightened emotions and argument.
If you look closely at the background, you'll see that the word 'sorry' is written countless times on the canvas. It began as an attempt by the artist to write his apologies a thousand times after a fierce argument. When he didn't reach a hundred, the canvas was handed over and finished by another, who also added a rightful 'sorry'.
This makes it an incredibly pure and layered work in which the tension, but also the eventual reconciliation, are still tangible. An expressionist painting with a true, raw soul and powerful black lines.
Made with mixed techniques on a sturdy base.
