Product description
This work is an academic nude study from a live model, executed in Paris in 1937, signed F.Morain (or Monain, Monin).
It perfectly illustrates the vigor and technical mastery that prevailed in Parisian workshops between the two world wars.
The drawing is distinguished by a stylistic approach typical of the 1930s:
The artist uses charcoal with great sensitivity, playing on soft transitions obtained by blending to model the forms of the body, while retaining firm and structured contour lines coupled with the use of a medium-toned (beige/kraft) tinted studio paper, bringing out the physical presence and complexion of the model through deep contrasts of shading.
The drawing is framed in a gilded baguette frame under glass and features another study on the back, this time of a male nude.
Very good general condition (some marks on the frame)
Height: 54cm
Width: 43.5cm
