Eskimo stoneware sculpture, created by Juan Huerta for Lladró in the 1990s. 19 cm x 19 cm x 30 cm. Juan Huerta was one of the historical pillars and most prolific sculptors of the renowned Lladró manufacturer, the Valencia-based company famous worldwide for its porcelain figurines with pastel shades and elongated forms. Having joined the Lladró "family" in the 1960s, Huerta played a decisive role in defining what we now know as the Lladró style: a mix of gentle realism, classic elegance, and a certain sentimental vein. He was primarily active between the 1960s and the early 2000s. Huerta was a master at capturing the delicacy of gestures. His works range from childlike figures to religious themes, and animals, always with meticulous attention to detail (such as the famous handmade porcelain flowers, petal by petal). Lladró is not just a brand, but the global symbol of Spanish artistic porcelain. Founded in 1953 in Almàssera (Valencia) by brothers Juan, José, and Vicente Lladró, the company transformed a small artisanal production into a luxury empire present in over 120 countries. Unlike traditional porcelain, which requires multiple firing steps, Lladró perfected high-temperature single firing. This technique allows for the creation of the famous soft hues (powder blue, pearl grey, flesh pink) which seem to emanate light from within.
