Rare Space Age corner desk model “Jet” by Ernest Igl for Wilhelm Werndl designed and produced in Germany, 1969.
A futuristic and versatile design, with a clever movable construction, allowing to position it as a long, straight desk, or as a corner desk makes the design both functional as interesting. Igl’s initial desk design was one of the first to be made entirely out of plastic. The revolutionary concept and grand vision behind this corner desk are evident in its rounded corners, soft edges, and stunning shapes.
This particular desk comes in its original cream and taupe color combination which is a striking combination which fits almost every interior. The original key to the drawers is present and works, and the original trash can is also still present, which are mostly lost over the years in this model, making this a rare find.
Ernest Igl (1920-2001)
Czech modern designer Ernest Hofmann was born in 1920 in Prague. After graduating from the Munich Academy of Visual Arts, he founded the IGL Studio in Munich, and he took the designers name Ernest Igl. After World War II, he worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, and industrial designer.
While information on Igl is limited, his 1970 Jet Desk and other designs have recently found renewed popularity, due to an appearance in the Men in Black 3 movie (2012), where a re-edition by US company steel case was used in the MIB headquarters in a bright orange edition and have become a true collectors item!
