About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
A set of six wall-mounted compositions in hammered metal, copper, brass, and blackened steel, featuring magnificent red and orange patinas achieved through oxidation and brazing.
Each piece has a unique organic form, evoking the abstract and biomorphic explorations of the European Brutalist movement of the 1960s and 70s.
All pieces include a wall-mounting system, one with its original socket, suggesting that this was likely a sculptural lighting ensemble created for an exceptional architectural or interior setting (private residence, gallery, public building, or decorative commission).
The surfaces are deeply textured, worked with hammer and flame, using a technique similar to that of Belgian and French workshops of the period (associated with Daniel d’Haeseleer, Marc D’Haenens, Jean Meeus, etc.). One piece bears a recessed pentagonal hallmark "B + D," a poorly documented but high-quality workshop mark, indicative of professional wrought ironwork.
