Els Nijhof (1994) – Powerful Abstract Expressionist Painting (Ø 50 cm)
A unique, powerful, and highly decorative abstract expressionist artwork from 1994 by the Dutch artist Els Nijhof. This round painting (diameter 50 cm) is a fantastic example of expressive art from the 1990s. With a clear nod to the famous Cobra movement (think of Karel Appel and Corneille), dynamism and emotion burst from the panel. The work is characterized by a wild, intuitive interplay of lines, thick brushstrokes, and the use of striking primary colors (red, yellow, blue) that come together in an intriguing, mask-like composition.
The work is double-signed: subtly with "ELS 1994" on the front bottom right, and fully hand-signed with "Els Nijhof 1994" on the back.
Els Nijhof is particularly well-known in the Limburg region (Venlo); Her expressionist canvases were officially selected for the renowned Alphons Winters exhibitions in the 1980s and 1990s.
The back features a small hanging bracket, allowing the artwork to be hung directly on the wall!
