Product description
This hand-carved wooden mask from Nepal has a strikingly elongated shape that gives the face a powerful and almost serene appearance. The narrow eyes are carved merely as small openings, while the long, straight nose and the oval mouth opening define the mask's central character. These simple yet distinct forms create a highly expressive face. The mask is carved from a single piece of wood. Clear traces of the carving tools are still visible on the surface, keeping the manual craftsmanship clearly recognizable. Over the years, the dark wood has developed a natural patina with subtle color variations and a matte sheen that gives the object additional depth. Simple cords are still attached to the sides, with which the mask could originally be worn or hung. The slight curvature of the wood follows the natural shape of the tree trunk from which the mask was carved, lending the entire piece an organic character. Masks like this were often used in Nepal during local rituals, village festivals, or traditional performances.
