This original etching, “Le Chapeau et la Guitare”, is an iconic work by Édouard Manet. The design dates from 1862, the year Manet created this composition as a frontispiece for an album of his most important etchings. The still life depicts a guitar, a Spanish wide-brimmed hat, and a basket, executed in Manet’s characteristic powerful lines and strong contrasts. The work marks an important moment in the artist’s early career and his innovative approach to graphic art.
The etching is professionally framed in a classic gold-colored frame with a deep black mat, which brings out the subtle details and the texture of the paper.
