Private sellerProduct description
Special Dutch design armchair by Jan den Drijver, designed around 1948 for his own Hague furniture and interior design store Woninginrichting De Stijl.
Jan den Drijver (1903–1993) is a relatively unknown, but interesting name in Dutch furniture history. As a furniture maker and interior designer, he combined modernist principles with traditional craftsmanship and great attention to comfort.
This armchair is a beautiful early example of his work. The high back, curved wooden armrests, horizontal slats, and elegant lines give the piece a distinct character. The design is beautifully situated at the intersection of Dutch pre-war modernism and the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic that would widely break through in the 1950s.
A modest but very carefully designed armchair, interesting for lovers and collectors of Dutch vintage design and post-war modernism.
Frame in good condition and cushion could be reupholstered as desired.
