Ducretet-Thomson, born from the merger of Ducretet and Thomson-Houston, represented the elite of French radio technology in the 1950s. Its combined radio and record player units were the pinnacle of domestic comfort during the Trente Glorieuses (Glorious Thirty, a period of economic prosperity in France post-WWII): listening to the radio in the morning, playing a 78 rpm record in the evening, all in a single elegant piece of furniture placed at the heart of the living room. The solid mahogany-stained wooden cabinet with rounded corners rests on a black lacquered base. The top lid opens to reveal a turntable equipped with its gold-chromed tonearm and its original burgundy felt. The red and silver Ducretet-Thomson adapter disc is still in place. The front facade features the brand's characteristic design: a cream-colored braided pattern speaker cloth, a textured gold frame, a chrome tuning fork-shaped tuning needle, a station band, and two white bakelite knobs. A brown metal Ducretet Thomson plate is on the facade. Overall satisfactory condition, with a noble patina on the wood and metal. Untested, offered as-is for decoration or to be restored to working order by an electronics technician. Placed on a sideboard, console, or shelf, this combined unit asserts its presence with the quiet authority of significant post-war French objects. Complete and original, it is a rare piece for collectors and vintage decor enthusiasts alike.
