Product description
Old oval DOUFEU black cast iron cocotte, with its hollow lid with water reservoir and integrated handles. A piece with strong character for a collection of French utensils or a country kitchen.
The lid bears the molded inscriptions « DOUFEU – DEPOSE – BREVETE S.G.D.G. – FRANCE. ETRANGER ». Its concave shape is designed to receive cold water to promote condensation during simmering. The Doufeu model appeared in 1934; the precise dating of this example and its attribution to Cousances / Le Creuset remain to be confirmed, as no manufacturer's signature is legible in the photographs.
Communicated dimensions: height with lid 19 cm × length with handles 34 cm × width 22 cm.
Condition: traces of use, patina and small areas of oxidation. Close-ups of the underside show a cracked black layer and surface alterations. The exact nature of this finish remains to be determined; raw unenameled cast iron and all-hob compatibility are therefore not guaranteed. Appropriate inspection and preparation are necessary before any potential culinary use. The photographs detail the condition of the piece.
