Enhance your interior with this stunning vintage Romeo Rega pedestal dining table from the 1970s.
This piece embodies the essence of High Italian Glamour—a bold yet elegant statement that masterfully blends architectural forms with luxurious materials.
It is an impressive, heirloom-quality design that commands attention in any modern or historic interior.
The table features a beautiful, thick, round Italian marble top. The base, a striking "dumbbell" composition, showcases Rega's masterful use of mixed metals and lucite (acrylic glass).
The column consists of a beautiful acrylic cylinder—a hallmark of that era—that creates a dazzling, floating visual effect. This lucite core is anchored by two tiered stacks of metal discs:
Top: A thick, black metal disc resting on a smaller bronze layer.
Base: A sturdy base with a smaller bronze disc, set on a large, polished stainless steel plinth.
The materials used—marble, bronze, steel, and acrylic—are all solid, giving the table an impressive weight and enduring quality. This is a definitive piece of Italian design history, perfect for the collector seeking a piece of furniture with dramatic scale and sculptural refinement for a dining or meeting room.
This table belongs to a rare category of furniture from the 1970s, characterized by geometric precision and material opulence. Collectors who appreciate the seamless combination of acrylic and metal, as seen in the work of Charles Hollis Jones, or the iconic, sculptural look of Karl Springer and the timeless, luxurious forms of Vladimir Kagan, will recognize this Rega table as a crucial part of that design tradition.
It is a quintessential Italian modernist piece that is highly sought after today. Dimensions: In: H 29.5" x D 48" Cm: H 75 cm x D 122 cm

About the Designer:
Romeo Rega (born in Rome, 1925–1984) was a furniture designer and master blacksmith. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Pietro, who was also a craftsman. He learned his trade from a master blacksmith and forger, from whom he mastered the art of ironwork. In the late 1940s, he opened a small workshop in Trastevere, Rome, where he began working with wrought iron and focused on the design and manufacture of gates, balustrades, and iron furniture. In 1957, he opened his first studio, where he collaborated with talented wrought and forged masters. In 1959, he received a major commission from Cinecittà to design and manufacture the chariots for the film Ben-Hur. His clients included celebrities from the film and entertainment world, such as Marcello Mastroianni, Renato Rascel and his wife Giuditta Saltarini, Massimo Ranieri, and Renzo Arbore. In the 1970s, Romeo Rega was part of a group of Italian designers who combined inventiveness and elegance with a strong modernist influence. Along with Willy Rizzo and Gabriella Crespi, he was one of the founders of the modernist glam style, which remains popular today. He began combining traditional ironworking methods with materials like brass, steel, and Lucite. His best-known designs include the four-rod tables, Zeta consoles, and obelisk lamp. The trademark Romeo Rega, with the double "r," was first used on New Year's Eve 1969, symbolizing the transition to the 1970s. The company remained active until 1981.
