Painter Justus Dick Bakhuizen van den Brink (Leiden, 1950) made this work in 2004. Oil on canvas. Dimensions 40 x 40 cm. Dick Bakhuizen, descendant of the well-known maritime 17th-century painter Ludolph Backhuysen, after a short period at the Free Art Academy in The Hague, took lessons with Gerard de Wit at Ars Aemula Naturae and with the Leiden artists' group The Leiden Academy of Ed Vijsma. Bakhuizen's painting style has a bio-morphological slant and is often associated with surrealism, but his work belongs to different movements. Over the years he started to work more and more abstractly. In a poetic dream world, he disconnects objects from their original function in order to integrate them into his organic world. Bakhuizen's work is recognizable by its striking use of color, both in his abstract and in his realistic paintings. Bakhuizen has exhibited in various countries, including in the Modern Museum of Oxford, Sint Niklaas (Belgium), Ventimiglia (Italy), Platja d'Aro (Spain), Argentat and Beaulieu (France) and in Torun (Poland). In the Netherlands, his portraits of Harry Mulisch and Jules Deelder were included in the Literary Museum of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague in 2011. His work is included in museums in Torun (Poland) and the Modern Museum in Oxford and in private collections. by the English actress Julie Christie and Queen Máxima (Source: Wikipedia).
