This is a brutalist ceramic floor Vase by the German artist Gerhard Liebenthron. The piece is a characteristic example of his work from the late 1970s, recognizable by its expressive, abstract decoration and monumental, hand-thrown form. A handwritten note on the bottom confirms the artist, his location in Bremen's Böttchergasse, and the year of creation, 1978.
The Vase is made of ceramic and features a bulbous, organic silhouette with a narrow neck. The surface is in earthy brown tones and covered with a dynamic, almost calligraphic black glaze that creates a strong visual texture. This technique is typical of Liebenthrons style, which was often inspired by nature and abstract forms. As a unique piece, this work represents the West German studio ceramic movement of the post-war period.
The overall condition of the Vase is very good and consistent with its age. The ceramic is intact, and the glaze retains its original intensity and luster.
