About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This is an original 'Kastor' pendant lamp, designed in 1969 by the Danish designer Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup. The piece is a remarkable example of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design, known for its sculptural form and thoughtful light diffusion.
The lamp comes from the collection of my late father, who acquired it as an original directly in Copenhagen at the time. It has been continuously in family possession ever since (I am the second owner).
The lamp consists of eight precisely arranged polished copper lamellae mounted on a brass frame. This construction not only creates a direct, downward-facing light but also a characteristic, star-shaped pattern on the ceiling when the lamp is switched on. The warm, reflective properties of the copper give the emitted light a particularly inviting quality.
Excellent vintage condition with brilliant shine. The lamp shows a minimal pressure mark, invisible when hanging, which emphasizes the authentic patina of this over 50-year-old classic. No deep scratches.
As a central element above a dining table or as accent lighting in a living area, this lamp seamlessly integrates into interiors ranging from Mid-Century Modern to contemporary design. Its iconic form makes it a statement piece that functions as both a light source and an art object.
