Dennis Thomson copper wall artwork
This is a rare large copper artwork by Dennis Thomson.
Dennis Thomson was active in Rhodesia in the 1960s and 1970s. He produced 3D copper artwork of wildlife. The hearth screens appear to be scarcer than the plaques he also made.
This hearth screen represents the African giraffe in detailed copper. I1968). The base is a teak wood frame, with an etched sheet of copper attached to it, and a dimensional, highly detailed copper giraffe scene attached to it.
This artwork is signed by the artist at lower right and has his original maker's label on the reverse:
HT Enterprises Ltd.
The copper has a radiant sunburst effect and the teak frame sets it off beautifully. Stands on two adjustable legs that are removable so it can not only be set on these but also hung on the wall. In good condition, a few of the imposed tree branches sit proudly separate from the brass and add to the 3D effect.
An impressive and rare piece, looks great.
80 wide
61 high with wooden base
55 high in frame

The copper has acquired a beautiful patina over the years. Polishing is up to the buyer, however, in my opinion you polish away the character
