A very beautiful Dutch decorative plate, signed Royal Sphinx Maastricht, bearing on its reverse the inscription "Made in Holland" and the indication "Delfts". This piece is part of the long tradition of Delft Blue, from which it elegantly adopts the famous contrast of deep blue on a white background. The center of the plate immediately transports us to the Netherlands. Several traditional Dutch sailboats are depicted on a calm expanse of water, while on the banks, houses, a few figures, and in the distance, the unmistakable silhouette of a windmill are outlined. An entire Dutch landscape summarized in a particularly evocative scene. The central composition is surrounded by a remarkable, very dense ornamental border, made of large foliage, stylized flowers, palmettes, and arabesques. The cobalt blue, sometimes intense, sometimes rendered in softer shades, gives the decoration a real depth. The slightly wavy and scalloped edge further enhances its decorative character. The Sphinx factory in Maastricht is part of the important ceramic history of this Dutch city, which became, from the 19th century onwards, one of the major production centers in the Netherlands. The presence of the name Regout on the stamp also links this piece to this great Maastricht industrial and artistic tradition. Diameter approximately 26 cm. The reverse retains its old metal hanging system. A piece full of character, ideal for a collection of Dutch ceramics, among a set of Delft Blue, or simply hung alone on a wall where its particularly rich decoration will immediately make an impact.
