DEATH (Don't Easily Abandon The Hope) is a street artist from New York. DEATH chooses to keep her identity anonymous; she believes this gives her more freedom to continue working on the street. She began painting on the walls and floors of popular shops in the Soho and Chelsea areas of New York City. DEATH NYC's artwork can now be seen in galleries and on streets all over the world. She was also recently featured in a Google Glass advertisement. She grew up in New York and was exposed to various cultures, which led her to question the things she saw on the street. This experience is crucial to the choice of her pseudonym and approach. DEATH prefers to remain anonymous so that she can maintain her freedom to work on the street. Initially, DEATH painted on the walls and floors of regular shops in the Soho and Chelsea neighborhoods. Her pseudonym is actually an acronym for "Don't Easy Abandon The Hope," which is often misleading to the public, especially when the artist writes her slogan "Death is free" on the street. In her work, DEATH mocks the media by distorting images from popular culture. One of her most famous works is the depiction of Mao Zedong with a pink bow in his hair and pink lipstick.
