About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This upholstered armchair is an authentic piece of design history from the former GDR, originally housed in the renowned Kulturpalast Dresden. Its origin, evidenced by the original inventory label, gives it a unique historical character. The design embodies the functional and straightforward aesthetic of Mid-Century Modernism, which developed its own distinct character in East Germany.
The chair's construction is based on a robust, dark lacquered metal frame that forms a clear, angular silhouette. The seat and backrest are covered with a durable, blue patterned fabric, typical of the period. Comfort is provided by the Nosag spring suspension. The solid wood armrests add a warm, natural accent and complete the well-thought-out material concept.
The chair is in good condition, reflecting its eventful past. It shows an authentic patina, testifying to its use in one of Dresden's most significant cultural institutions. The original materials and solid craftsmanship have been preserved, highlighting the longevity of the design from this era.
As a striking individual armchair, this piece of furniture is ideal for a study, a reading area, or as an accent in a living room with an eclectic or industrial interior style. It combines well with modern and vintage elements and will be a conversation starter for lovers of design with history.
