This is a digital lithograph by the influential British artist David Hockney. The work combines a portrait with abstract elements, characteristic of his later style, and is numbered as a unique copy (1/1).
The composition, executed on paper measuring 30 x 40 cm, shows a self-portrait of the artist in black, sketchy lines. Above it floats a stylized, orange-red cloud. The work contains the handwritten French text "Quand je travaille, je ne fais que ça", which can be translated as "When I work, I only do that". The "Unlimited Editions" stamps indicate the publisher, while the 1/1 numbering marks the piece as a unique work within the series.
"Unlimited Editions" is a series of 73 drawings, made directly on a whitewashed wall with a very soft pencil (9B). The drawings were created between 2007 and 2013. They were individually photographed by a professional photographer with a large-format camera. They were then printed, hand-signed, stamped, and dated. Most exist as single copies, while some were released in editions of three or five. Most are printed on paper, but some also on aluminum. The smallest size is 20 x 30 cm, the largest 115 x 170 cm.
The works have been exhibited in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Ostend, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, among other places. As a result, some signs of use may be present, such as pinholes or small nail marks. Represented since 2011 by the Antwerp-based Eva Steynen Gallery. His work has been exhibited at art fairs in Berlin, Cologne, Luxembourg, and Brussels, among others.
The "drawings" are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
